Winning philosophies from Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill

Let it be said here concisely: (some of it)

  • There are no limitations to the mind except those that we acknowledge.
  • No one has ever been defeated until defeat has been accepted as a reality.

We may think that some people are lucky to get “breaks and opportunities” that plunge them to great success, but in reality, it is the persistence and the strong desire to see a dream come true that causes thought to be turned into reality. They acted upon their thoughts and did not procrastinate until the thought has been transformed into its physical equivalent.

Let me share with you a poem from the book:

“If you think you are beaten, you are,
If you think you dare not, you don’t.
If you like to win, but think you can’t,
It is almost certain you won’t.

If you think you’ll lose, you’re lost,
For out in the world we find,
Success begins with a fellow’s will -
It’s all in the state of mind.

If you think you are outclassed, you are,
You’ve got to think high to rise,
You’ve got to be sure of yourself before
You can ever win the prize.

Life’s battles don’t always go
To the stronger or faster man,
But soon of late the one who wins
Is the man WHO THINKS HE CAN!”

I can’t say it any better than the poet. The challenge for the individual is to apply it and always walk in the positive. Without a doubt, he/she will be among the greats who ever walked this earth.

Of exams, riches and US universities

One more week to the exams, and I am still hurrying to cover as much ground as possible. =)

Somehow I found time to read this book entitles “Think and Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill. Here was a man who devoted 25 years of his life studying why people succeed or fail. I was jumping around the place halfway through the book- I has also discovered for myself the secret to great success and riches. Amazing. You should read it! Your life will never be the same. And the best part: God has a part to play in all this too!

I am crazy. I tend to think about universities whenever I study for my exams. Have been idling around day-dreaming about entering the top US unis…

I’d love to go to Stanford, but it is need-based, i.e. no financial aid, cause asking for it dramatically reduces admission chances. Of equal preference is MIT which is need-blind=P. I want to study Management Science offered by these two universities, and not offered anywhere else among the top US unis. I also plan to study Economics. People who know me since secondary school may be surprised as they think I am the engineering or science type. Maybe, but that is now of the past. Econs and management make my day now =)

Well, it all depends on whether I get accepted or not. Ohh… I can’t wait to start applying and write all those essays as well as fill in those application forms. =) So fun and exciting, especially just the thought of going to such great places to study! I’ll leave it to God to handle these things for me, for he has always been putting me at the right places through my life.

I’ll apply to (tentative)
Stanford, MIT, Yale, Princeton, Harvard, Wharton, Chicago, Cornell, UCBerkeley (9 in total)
Applying to either all nine or most of the nine, maybe only a few of it.

Any of it, please Lord!
Amen.

Some random jottings =)

6 and a half more hours to my NTU H3 final exams. Have been studying physics non-stop since Wednesday… never seem to be able to finish every single concept, but oh well, it’s going to be fine i guess.

Saw City Harvest Church’s Emerge Conference and Parade of Schools on GODTV since I wasn’t able to go to church due to the exam.=( Fantastic event! Broadcasted around the globe via GODTV! I’m so proud of City Harvest! Wish I was there; the atmosphere was electric and so dynamic in church, especially with all the performance by various schools and campuses, as well as the special performance. But exams are exams, have to focus =P

Registered for SAT today for the October 2007 test. Taking for the second time after a dismal first try. Its do or die. Do well, and my American Top Uni Dream lives on. Do badly, ahem… let’s not venture there…

OK gtg, can blog too long now… it’s getting late, or rather early in the morning ;)
