Things I will never be able to do if I studied Pre-U in Malaysia
Hi Hi!
What a year it has been!
It’s great to be studying here in Singapore! So many possibilities, so many activities!
God really put me in the right place, and also got me to draw closer to him!
A few things I wouldn’t have been able to do had I stayed in Malaysia for pre-U:
1) Attend a great church such as City Harvest Church! A wonderful and exuberant church of 22, 000 people! The largest church in Singapore and one of the few churches who really look into the practical aspect of life and bringing God into our daily lives. The speakers are phenomenal, especially our Senior Pastor, Pastor Kong Hee and many others. Every week I walk away with something to apply in my life, be it spiritual messages or inspirational messages. My life has never been the same. Now regularly attending service and cell group every week. Considering joining ushering ministry as well!!
2) I get to run along the Second Link bridge as well as run 73 stories up the Swissotel the Stamford (Vertical Marathon). So many fun races and marathons here in Singapore!!
3) Enter a clean room dressed up in a suit and conduct experiments using sophisticated machines. Getting attached to the Institute of Materials Research and Engineering was really an eye opener. Singapore is really a research haven.
4) Enjoy the very efficient public transportation. Guess what, by Singaporean standards, the public transportation is still not good enough, and after using it for so long daily, I kinda agree the same thing. But it is anytime 5 times better than any public transportation in Malaysia.
5) Borrow any good book you see in the bookshop. No need to buy! The library here is superb as well. Located in many major shopping centers, it is readily accessible and contains a huge collection of books.
6) Be independent and free in my decision making as well as my course. As you could have guessed, my parents ain’t around here.=P I return home as late as 11.00 or sometimes 12.00 am, and no one’s there to sound me. =)
7) Coming here made me see the world in a very different light. It’s very different here that in Malaysia. The races here do not brandish keris in a General Assembly and protest for their rights. The people here, on the other hand, work hard for themselves, and lend a helping hend to others in need, far from the kiasu label we Malaysians like to associate them with. In retrospect, who likes to lose? If I like to win, am i kiasu? Singaporeans are really VERY much like Malaysian Chinese, the only main difference is the Government and the “unwilling to be complacent” culture of the Singaporeans to fight for their place in the world. Do you know that Singapore is the 9th largest economy in the world? Food for thought.
Haha, I can go on and on. In a nutshell, it’s fun to study here! Explore the world of possiblities!
